Fund II Potential

Investing in Renewables and Innovative Technology for Africa
SCROLL DOWN
The SandMartin Fund II will invest in advanced enabling technologies prioritising those that are highly effective in power generation, but have everyday relevance to improving the environment and well being of millions of people.

SandMartin Impact Capital (SMIC)’s objective is to raise a €75M, 10-year private equity fund to invest in Africa focused (primarily West and Central Africa) businesses with a high-growth potential. Our focus for investments will be targeted at renewable energy and technology with the goal to drive innovation, economic growth, and improve the quality of life for many.

Investment Criteria

The investment criteria for the SandMartin Fund II is:
  • Impact technologies that solve current and future challenges
  • Protection of health and our environments using enabling technologies
  • Future proofing and eradication of some of Africa’s energy challenges
  • Identifying high-growth potential companies that operate in West and Central Africa
The SandMartin Fund II will focus on businesses that are close to, or have reached a commercial inflection point. These target companies will be either early stage or building towards regional and Pan-African commercial success. The fund seeks to invest in companies with the ability to disrupt and transform the energy market.

Responsible, Sustainable, and Impactful Investment

SMIC promotes responsible, sustainable, and impact investment, applying the highest standards of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for 2030, set by the United Nations in 2015 (https://sdgs.un.org/goals).

This was reflected in our first fund, the Africa Private Equity Fund I, which is aligned to all the principles of ESG investing along with sustainable development goals and in particular No3 and No9 in the UN’s SDG list – To ensure good health and wellbeing for all at all ages and to build resilient infrastructure and foster innovation.

We will harness our investment community to always support ESG principles by identifying and prioritising renewable energy business with innovative and reliable technologies. These will have real impact in relation to preparation and preparedness for current and future energy challenges, as well as standalone benefits to combat climate change and protect the environment.

Potential Impact

Energy and electricity are fundamental to thriving societies, serving as the backbone of modern infrastructure and a driver for economic development. Access to reliable and affordable electricity boosts productivity and fuels every sector from agriculture to industry.
In regions like Central and West Africa, where electrification rates are still low and many communities remain off-grid, renewable energy sources present a transformative opportunity. Our Fund II aims to support this transformative process and empower change through strategic investment. By increasing electrification through renewables, we can play a role in accelerating economic growth in the region, while improving the quality of life for millions, and establishing a more sustainable and resilient energy future for Africa.
